FREELANCE TRANSLATORS (all languages)

Think you have what it takes to be a board game translator for The Geeky Pen? Then we’d be delighted to talk to you!

The only requirement we have is that you need to have a linguistic degree. Style and jargon can be taught, but true language skills require a formal education, and that’s something we can’t give you.

Who are we looking for?

  • You must have a linguistic degree, and you would have a huge step up if you use a CAT tool like Trados or memoQ.
  • Feel free to apply, no matter your language combination. We can’t guarantee that we’ll need your help right away, but our company is growing all the time and we keep a detailed reserve list of all applicants: pinky promise!
  • You must have a close affinity with playing board games (duh!) or at the very least ample experience translating video games. Tell us why you are the ideal candidate!
  • You must be a full-time freelancer with ample availability, also on short notice!
  • You must do your best to answer all of the questions mentioned below in your application!

In your application, please answer the following questions:

  • Have you translated or proofread any board games before? If so, which ones?
  • What’s your background as a board game player?
  • Do you play a lot of games, and if so which ones are your favorites and why?
  • Do you visit board game clubs or conventions?
  • Do you have a CAT tool?

Please take the time to tell us a captivating story about yourself. We are a close-knit family and the more you can show us that you’re excited about joining us, the better. Make it geeky!

If you think you fit the bill, feel free to send us your cover letter and resume at talent@geekypen.com. Good luck!

GRAPHIC DESIGNERS

Think you have what it takes to be a graphic designer for The Geeky Pen? Then we’d be delighted to talk to you!

The Geeky Pen often does DTP (desktop publishing) work for clients. There is usually very little involved in terms of designing the rulebook itself. Here’s what you would be doing for us.

When a translation is finished, one of our project managers will send you a translation table with 2 columns: the source text on the left and the target text on the right. They will also forward you InDesign packages. Your job would be to replace the source text with the localized target text within these InDesign packages, and to also create printable PDF files (300 dpi, CMYK).

Who are we looking for?

– You must be able to demonstrate that you have worked on board game related materials for at least 1 publisher before (rulebooks, components, marketing materials, etc).
– You will have a big step up if you are a full-time freelancer with ample availability, also on short notice!
– You must have a close affinity with playing board games (duh!). Tell us why you are the ideal candidate!
– Feel free to apply spontaneously. We can’t guarantee that we’ll need your help right away, but our company is growing all the time and we keep a detailed reserve list of all applicants: pinky promise!
